Fixtures and Fittings – Work for the Atina Palazzo Exhibition

The culmination of our Residency in Atina is an exhibition at the Palazzo Ducale Cantelmo in Atina which opens this evening at 6 PM 11/8/14 and is open 12-13/8/14.

My work has been made at the Asilo Infantile Beatrice where all the artists are staying and where we have our studio space.  The Asilo building has been a place of work for many years and each era has brought its own technology for living and working. ‘Fixtures and Fittings’ is a series of drawings that studies these technologies. It focuses on these seemingly inanimate devices as they quietly go about their business of channelling energy; managing the flow of liquids; restraining and releasing the movement of goods and people.

Atina Residency – Work in Progress

I am now in  Atina in Italy on a residency at The Asilo Infantile Beatrice which was formerly a nursery run by nuns and is now a community art centre. The Asilo building is full of history. It has been a place of work in different guises for many years and each new era has brought its own technology for living and working, laid over the previous, all still evident to the visitor.

My project is provisionally entitled ‘Fixtures and Fittings’ and is a series of drawings featuring details of the building. Work in progress is below. We have a show at Sant’Ambrogio sul Garliano on Saturday 9/8/14 at 6PM, and our final exhibition at the Palazzo Cantelmo in Atina opens at 6PM on 11/8/14 and runs till 13/8/14. Not all these drawings will necessarily be shown.
